The hunt for a new GM at Digicel goes on as David Hunter moves to head up Jamaica. Rumors abound as to who that replacement might be. Local or will Digicel import one of their own from Group?
The company announced that David Hunter, the current general manager of Digicel Bermuda, has been appointed to CEO of Digicel Jamaica.
During his tenure in Bermuda, Hunter has led Digicel to the number one position in the market, increasing the total number of customers by 75 percent since 2006.
He has been involved in the enhancement of the Digicel network and the entrance of various products into the market. Additionally, Digicel has received various awards over the past two years including The Bermudian Business Product and Service award and the Community Service Award from the Bermuda Alumni Chapter of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.
“I welcome the new challenge and I am happy to say that during my time in Bermuda, Digicel has been very successful thanks to the progressive efforts of our employees” says David Hunter. “I will continue to watch closely as the company goes from strength to strength.”
A spokeswoman for the company said it would soon be advertising for an applicant to fill Mr. Hunter’s role here on the Island.
Colm Delves, CEO of Digicel Group, said: “Digicel is pleased to announce the appointment of David Hunter as our new CEO for Jamaica. We are confident that he will build on Digicel Jamaica’s excellent track record of strong growth experienced in the past seven years. As our business in Jamaica continues to strengthen, David and our entire Jamaica team will ensure that our customers continue to be our number one priority.”
In 2007, Digicel Group recorded more than six million customers and a total investment exceeding US $1.9 billion.
